TO CONTRIBUTE: Reach out to MonsterFenrick here or in Discord. Submissions accepted in spreadsheet format (LibreOffice, Excel, GoogleSheets, etc.) using the same 6 column format as below.

NTSC Version only! Do Not Use for PAL or MR2DX Versions!
Using Make-A-Monster you can still create all rares & regular monster variants without the below CDs, exactly as the game would produce them.
(Be sure to leave "NTSC" as the version dropdown to generate NTSC compatible files with Make-A-Monster.)
Details about NTSC version and list

NTSC, NTSC U/C, NTSC U covers the Americas (Canada, United States, and other territories).

NOTE: You may obtain different monsters produced by the same listed album or game due to different releases of albums, different pressings, publishers (BGM, Columbia House, etc.), singles, box sets, Greatest Hits, Explicit Lyrics vs Clean versions, etc. (Just see "Moo Mysteries"). If identifiers were provided they will be notated.

This is not a definitive or ongoing CD Database of all CDs (or versions of them) out in the world, it is a collection of thousands of manually catalogued personal collections, across many individuals, to document which CDs create which monsters. Most entries are from around the time of the game's release, with a few entries from much later years from folks that had an interest to check out newer albums/games, etc.

Many older entries have been corrected by cross-referencing submissions with other online publications and discography databases. This effort includes correction of misspelled artist names, titles, attempts to include full album titles where they were previously abbreviated, and other details where there may previously have been none. This revised list should also be more coherent than many of the previously archival attempts, and easier to sift through.

Many older entries have been removed that are mostly or completely irrelevant 25+ years later. These include highly unlikely to be obtained CDROMs. For example; Numerous free AOL or Earthlink internet trial CDs of varying amount of minutes or hours, Stuff that came in a cereal box, 30+ year old PC software that is likely unobtainable, or people's personally burned CDs that you would not be able to acquire in the first place.

Entries with too little information that could not be accurately cross-referenced with a legitimate source, or too vague to identify the exact CD being referenced in the first place, have also been removed.
Since Make-A-Monster has been developed, and works with either physical CDs or digital emulation, much of the cataloging is moot, but it is still a fun thing to look through for posterity. A decision was made to keep Music, Games, and other easily identifiable titles for the revised list, while omitting these obsolete, invalid or extraneous entries.

Moo Mysteries: The Elusive Beck Mellow Gold

Acquiring Moo has been, perhaps, the most notoriously elusive monster in the game due to the absolute needle-in-a-haystack search for the correct template CD that was used to produce it during development.

The ablum was known: Beck's Mellow Gold. However, there are 53 different CD versions released across the world, among 111 total versions across all various formats.
For decades, the only identifier documented was "Barcode (Text): 7 2064-24634-2 0" however, among all of the CDs, this barcode was shared between many versions. The true identifier lay in the record labels and codes.

Long story short: This is an EU Release album by BMG specifically that was used for NTSC version (Was this intentional, or an accident? We may never know).

Key Indicators of confirmed album:

  • GED24634 code along the spine and near UPC/Barcode, and on the Disc. There must NOT be a space in this code, which is present on a different region release.
  • GEFFEN Records logo on the back cover and on the Disc, next to BONG LOAD records.
  • BONG LOAD records logo on the back cover and on the Disc, next to GEFFEN.
  • Censored Song Titles on the back.
  • Made in France printed on the Disc.
  • Printed in France printed on the back cover.
  • Distributed by BMG printed on the back cover.
  • 7 2064-24634-2 0 UPC/Barcode text, though this is NOT unique and is on many of the different releases, and is the least reliable method for identifying the correct version.
  • Cross-Reference with Discogs database for Beck - Mellow Gold
It is also possible that one of the other 52 CD versions might make it and it just hasn't been found or documented. Beck Mellow Gold is also supposed to produce Magnet in Monster Rancher 1, but which CD version isn't noted for it.

Thankfully, someone in the community has the correct physical release version that generates Moo... Thanks Lexi!.
