Monster Rancher 2 Expedition Breakdown

This guide lists all the details of adventuring: visiting requirements, road block removal requirements, hidden path finding requirements, detailed maps, building items and percentage chance that they exist, success in finding items, success and failure results, effects of the expedition on the monster. The adventure names are listed below with abbreviations that will be utilized throughout this guide.

The monster starts the expedition with a fixed amount of energy points based on the Monster's life attribute. The adventure must be finished before the Monster's energy points get to -10 for any possibility of success.

Road Blocks, Hidden Paths, Warps, and Buildings

During the adventure, the monster will encounter these type of locations: a) Road blocks, which impede a monster's path progress can be removed by using the Monster's Power; b) Hidden Paths, which open up a new path will be found by using the Monster's Intelligence; c) Warps, which sometimes are designated by a star symbol on the path and will transfer the monster to 1 of 3 different locations; and d) Buildings, which are where the monster will find valuable items. The number of item search locations for a specific building is always fixed, but is randomly picked from the 10 possible search location possibilities upon entering the building. The items populated in the buildings will be based on the Monster's overall nature and Monster's Intelligence, but sometimes the Monster's Skill is used instead of intelligence. The monster's chance of finding an item in a building, though, is always based on its intelligence.

Building Item Search and Replacement

The same item can be found in a building more than once. There are some items that are "special" that cannot be found more than once in the game, though. These special items: "Old Sheath", "Mask", "Big Footstep", "Fire Feather", and "Strong Glue", will be replaced at the time of the duplicate special item being found. In addition, many items found during the adventure are Monster Disc Chips. The Disc Chips can only be found if the corresponding monster has been unlocked in the game. If the monster has not been unlocked, then the Disc Chips item will be replaced at the time of the locked Disc Chips item being found. The replacement item will randomly be chosen from the following three items: 1) Half-eaten, 2) Irritater, or 3) Mint Leaf. Note: Once a building has been entered, the items in that building will remain the same throughout the current expedition. When throwing away items when there are too many, the PS1 triangle button can be pressed to select and throw away the item just found.

Success or Failure

Upon finishing the adventure, Colt will meet with the host and talk about how the adventure went. Depending on what the monster did during the adventure will result in it being classified as a failure or a complete success. Whether it is a failure or success, all items found will be kept.

Expedition Effects

Upon completion of the adventure, the Monster's fatigue will be increased by 70. In addition, the Monster's life weeks will be reduced. The amount that is reduced is 4 (for the 4 weeks that the Monster was gone) times the post fatigue increased calculated life index based life week reduction value (see appendix for calculation). The minimum life week reduction the monster will leave with is 8 weeks if started with 0 stress and 0 fatigue.
