Countering

Monster Rancher Metropolis: Monster Rancher Advance 2 Archive (GameBoy Advance): Miscellaneous Q&A (Post New Questions Here): Countering

Alright, so far it seems like trying to use the Counter option is something to trip up stupid newbies like me. Is there a proper way to use it? All I know is what the game has told me so far about the process. Is it in fact completely random?

from my exprence it has to do with more speed like when i train a tank with a speed of 50 or less i hardly ever got a sucess in a counter but with a speeder i almost always got one.The only difference is speed witch is at 900 or above

By Infernus on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 01:50 pm:

For me it seems to be completely random...no difference between tanks or speeders. Not sure of this, but I think the accuracy of the move that counters may factor in.

By GoldenBoy on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 01:56 pm:

There is nothing that "factors in" its a straight up 25%
chance to counter, based on the direction you choose.

If you have 30 guts, you can turn on Counter. Press and
hold B and pick a direction on the Dpad. The little arrow in
the top center will go blue. Until you or your opponent
attacks you have a 25% chance to counter. I'm not sure if it
uses the guts when you fail.

There are no restrictions based on range or what techs you
have. Think of it as a Counter Tech that works at all ranges.

There is an UpCountr trait, but that only increases your
dmag when you succeed.

Yeah, it makes sense it's 25%, seeing that there are four directions you can choose.

I think if you have a char. called SlamBack, you have a higher chance to counter. Sadly, only Hunter's monster has that char... Unless there is a way to get it. For now, the only way to get Slamback is Codebreaker or Gameshark.

By Nate Railsback on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 03:41 pm:

If it's truly random, I think that the monsters that would benefit most from it would be tanks. After all, they can absorb the damage from a failed counter well enough, and if it succeeds, they automatically connect regardless of their Skill or the opponent's Speed-- thus, it's the ideal way for a Golem to defeat a Combo King like a Tiger!

By GoldenBoy on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 05:52 pm:

That's why my Monol earned UpCountr spontaneously.

what's, i'm new to this site, but i've been playing MR for awhile. I think that each move has a specific direction that it is countered with. For example if you try to counter the move Ray, use down. This has worked for me but it's not 100%. there seem to be times when the direction changes for seemingly no reason - still it may be worthwhile to try to compile a list of directions for the moves.

By GoldenBoy on Thursday, November 20, 2003 - 08:53 pm:

How many times do I have to say this? It is random. Even
the book and the ingame turoial say so.

By BreederFormerlyKnownAsFluffy on Saturday, November 22, 2003 - 03:14 pm:

Hey man, no need to freak out. I was merely noting an observation i'd made. Maybe i only got lucky, ALOT.

I'm not sure but I suspect that it might be that you have to push the same direction as your opponent. It's the only think I can think of that makes sense.

By CoolbreederFelix on Sunday, December 12, 2004 - 08:57 pm:

Tanks might not benifit UNLESS all its stats are at 999. Reason:If the opponent's standard is way out of the tank's standard the tank still suffers severe damage even from a weak attack like bite

By Lil_Literalist on Thursday, August 18, 2005 - 06:27 pm:

I think that you just have to have enough guts to do the move that is the first move the monster has.
