Ok, Monster Rancher 2 has lots of little surprises: Binto's secret, a creepy doll that keeps moving around on its own, a dead tree springing to life, an explosion on expedition, visits from aliens, ec. What event in MR2 surprised you the most when it happened?

All of that stuff I took as regular game events. The one that really surprised me was when I had heard over and over how Colt never said anything new, and I thought I was already at that stage. Then one day we're at a tournament, and she smarted off to the advisors. I can't remember which one it was, but she basically called him boring and said he should just skip the speech. That really caught me off guard!

I haven't unlocked all that many monsters yet, or had that many special events happen. So what surprised me was when my little Skipper decided to go do his digging thing, and dug a little too deep...

That, and when my... well, one of the monters (I forget which one it was, offhand... I think it was a Nankyoro (sp?) decided to bring back something extra from an errantry.

pabs' harsh putdown of colt during the alien episode. this is the first time that tecmo allowed one of its "authority figures" to show himself as a dolt and a dunderhead...as the game went on, i found that it wasnt the last, either.

I'd have to agree with Argos. I was shocked, but adored the Kato's antics... the Jell surprised me with exactly how inventive they were with him... but by far the funniest thing was Pabs the dolt going "UMMMGAAAA..... GUAMMMMM" with the Joker Mask. I about fell off my bed
laughing as I watched that!

I was kinda surprised that they named "Whip" my Jell-Zuum's Forte when he made hall-of-fame status (my first Hall o' Famer! yay!). I may have used that 3 times? Only in an
attempt to end a battle where my opponent had been down to less than 10 Life. I expected Beam Gun at least...

pezcat, the same thing happened to me, and there is much discussion about it buried in a thread somewhere - maybe the one about darva. apparently, attacks used by the parents count toward forte for the offspring.

Personally, I sat straight up the first time I saw a Joker, and the first time I heard it giggle I cringed. I also cringed the first few times I heard a Centaur whinny in this game.

Hoppers gave you the finger. Those b*****ds. It should be rated M. Hehe Other than that NR2's got some of the ugliest and creepiest freaky monster in any game. I had only seen Suezo, Mocchi and a few others, mainly from the tv show, before I had played the game. I thought it'd be filled with cute monsters. That Hell Pierrot is something else.

As for the Hopper giving you "The Finger", it must be remembered that in Japan, where the game was created, "The Finger" gesture may have a much different, not to mention more polite, context. Just as some gestures that Americans consider friendly may mean something rude and boorish in Japan.

I was just being funny. I was kinda surprised by that though. I wonder if its really is different in japan. anyone shed a light here? the game and monsters actually doesn't have a great japanimation feel to it. not as much as pokemon anyway. they're very varied and come from myths from all over the world.

I think the most surprising thing would have to be that the mosters look fully grown when they're just born, except the fact that they're smaller! Suezo's don't have those cute lil' ears, and Naga's have big muscles as soon as they're born! What's with that?

I was most surprised when I found out how to unlock the Beaclon from B's old board. I couldn't believe such requirements could exist without any hint of meeting them are provided in the game itself.

I was really surprised when I tried the hatching trick from MR1 and my worm turned into a beaclon!

The "Ending". I was hopin' it would be better.

i have to agree about that, chundog. maybe it goes with a game thats capable of being played forever, but both games disappointed me with how little really happened when you achieved master level.

was the level of skill it takes to gat an HOF monster, all the little things you wouldnt normally worry about, its not a kids game..

It was Karn that Colt called boring. You know how some old geezers will just talk on and on about the same thing, until everyone is put to sleep. Well Colt was just giving a typical reaction as he was giving details concerning the tournement for the dragon thingie. But it's natural for him to get carried away since he's obviously an expert researcher in the feild. Scientists especially get so emotional about their favorite subjects, that they lose all track of time when they expound upon such matters. They're constantly reliving all of their favorite details and experiances even as they're talking. And, considering that there are so many fields and branches related to even just one closely studied subject, such as the rare dragon, the information accumulated so far could seem endless to some. Actually, the scientific study of any subject is endless. Karn, having lived as long as he has must've had alot of exciting details and experiances that he wanted to relate; thinking that his captive audiance would be just as interested and entertained as he was. I don't think that it would have occurred to him, that anyone would've considered one of his favorite subjects as less than exciting. In fact, he'd probably be suprised to find out that people weren't sitting on the edge of their seats in awe of the fantastic information concerning the dragon. So in short, Colt's reaction may not have really been all that remarkable; since older people will get carried away with talking a subject to death. What really suprised me was that I couldn't transfer my 'Eve' pixie from my slate. Bummer.

Phoenix coming out of the volcano suprised a lot!

What really caught me off gaurd was the cenatur attacking the farm. It made me jump because I wasn't looking at the screen until I heard my hare punching over and over again, I had a lot of bass on the tv and it was real loud.

Is there any other time a monster will attack the ranch?

What suroprised me the most was the fact that there was nobody in any of the monster rancher chats i saw while searching for other MR message boards!

I think the thing that surprised me the most was the alien visit. I was raising a monster, not that old yet, and suddenly the screen goes black and nighttime comes. I jumped out of my chair and yelled "NO WAY! IT CAN'T BE DEAD!"

But no, it was just those silly Metalners paying a visit. Phew.

I thought I was being abducted by aliens when the screen went black and the metalners came.

I was suprised to find that some of the monsters are like impossible to find on my stupid CD's. I can't find another Zilla,Mew(had to slate it over),Ghost(never got one in MR1),Metalner(had to combine Huey and Springer),Centaur(like I'd want one...)Joker,Undine, and Mock. I was also suprised when my Worm,Capone, made his cocoon.

The most surprising things happen to me during battle.

But one thing I did like was the size of the Beaclon/Joker horn.

Umm....Lot's of things. When the metlaners came for a visit I thought my monster was dieing and several thoughts entered my head at once. "Hey, Volcano's too young to die!!! Hey wait, Phoenixes don't die!?!?" Umm, how crappy the Undine's stats were. Actually I beat Greatest 4 (on February 2nd)with her and had 6 other techniques (not counting the basic ones). Well anyway....lot's of other things surprised me...

Before my game was... gouged... I remembered be absolutely shocked that you couldn't get a monster off of some discs. I'd played the 1st one, but had never used a rare disc so the thought of the game refusing to give me my monster upset me originally!

also the major 4 surprised me... I thought they would be alot harder but they sucked!!!! Oh, and it also surprised me when i found out u could have a hof, my dearly beloved golem is in there......sob....sob

i guess all the information new trainers have at their disposal changes the view of the major 4. when i first faced them, way back in 99, they seemed impossible at first, and it was only through repeated efforts and combining and improving, that i was able to defeat them.

In my opinion the best surprise in the game was the Legend Cup, I knew i mr1 there was no such thing... so once I unlocked that, I was like wow, coolness. And then on top of that there was a Hall-Of-Fame.

What suprised me was how hard E level was.

Two things:

1: when colt says "did that tree just move?" I cried. Me and my friend couldn't stop laughing. It was 5:30 in the AM and I had just drank a 2-liter of Mountain Dew, soooo......

2: Joker's Mask. Hilarious. Couldn't stop laughing in church. Thats all I can say.

3 things:

1:When the Phoenix flew out of the volcano in Kawrea.

2:How many CDs had locked monsters on them(in MR1 I NEVER found a CD with a locked monster...)

3:How young the monsters died...the seemed to live longer in MR1.

For me it was the Hopper giving me the NYC hello. I sat for five minutes disbelieving my eyes and wondering how that gesture got into the game. Sure would love to know what that gesture means in Japan...

i just saw something yesterday in the game that made me laugh. Has anyone ever seen a gaboo die? try it and you'll see what i mean.

The fact that Pixies, er, jiggle when they're angry was quite an interesting sight.
Also, ever had a monster NOT like Colt's Birthday Song? My Mint didn't like it and proceeded to jiggle in protest when Colt asked if she liked it. I thought all monsters loved it but I guess not.
....I guess ALL women do hate getting older...

Also how Metalners look, I'd never seen one and when I *finally* got visited by aliens and unlocked one it was VERY dissapointing.

What surprised me the most was the Blue Phoenix in the Kawrea Errantry. The Joker's sinister laugh when Real activates in battle, and playing for the first time, seeing all the new monsters.

the thing that surprised me the most, was when it hit Apr 1st Year 1100. Colt talks about how we've worked together for a century, then says we should part way and goes of screen. A few seconds later she returns saying "Just Kidding."

I didn't know whether to curse her out, or roll out laughing.

Hum... I remember When I had just gotten the Hot spring. And as master pabs or someone drops by. He Tells you about the Undine and about threw then asks to use your hot springs. I just couldn't stop laughing.
It was the weirdest thing, then there was the Mock, Wacky, Jill, and Zilla events.
You hav to get a Jill boot and foot print to get a Jill. Is that a little wierd? A Boot? you see any monster wearing boots?

no event really suprised me only that Colt and I had lived two thousand years without ageing. Lol

When I got metalner, it was completely by accident - amazed the hell out of me, I was super hyped.

When my phonix died and flew away.

I was surprised when my Suzuki, Sueki Suezo had 999 lif n def and only 1 spd. Then it dies after 1 training! Cum on was up wit that!

How when you feed a mock, it drops into the hollow head, comes out the mouth, is caught in the hands, and shoved back into the mouth.

Also, how repetitious Colt and Pabs are after you cacoon a worm.

that they died and left remains and no matter how strong they were when you got a cane for building a shrine you got a really weak monster called ghost or sumthin even though they were super strong the ghost sucked

what serprized me is how easy it is to unlock monsters. In MR1 you had to do tuns of stuff

After a large rank increase(7th, I believe) He treats you soooo nice! It's great if you compare 4th and 7th.

4th: Oh, it's you... Hurry up, pick a location. Your monster won't get any techniques from _there_...There is a chance of a technique from there...Oh, yes, the prize money... Here...

7th: Oh, Mr.(insert name here) and Coltia! So nice to see you! Please pick a location! Oh, I am afraid there is no chance of a technique in that location...Oh, yes, you can get a technique there, It is almost certain...Oh, yes, thank you, you've done it again! Here's the money! Come again!

but the singularly funniest and somewhat surprizing thing is a Mew with Diving Press hit a Zilla. It is like a tiny yellow zit suddenly increases his weight by about 10,000lbs. and lands on his face.

really? he'll treat us so nice? hehehe, i have never go to errantries again, because my S-class phoenix, who won all the mayor 4 and the legend cup hasn't die yet(or retired) so, i've never send it to errantry :)

I suprised myself with how attached I got to my very first monster, a slamander (zuum, dragon). When it died I accually cried IRL.. >.> I was young!...ish lolz

The hopper middle-finger thing really caught me off-guard as well..

Did you say your first monster was a Salamander? Sorry, I'm just a little confused because I thought dragon had to be unlocked. Didn't you have a monster to unlock him? I am really sorry if I am wrong, but I was just a little curious.

lol a Salamander is a zuum with a dragon sub-breed, so therefore dragon didnt have to be unlocked for me to have him ^^

I was surprised when I unlock a lot of my "stored locked CDīs" and all of them were Selketo, Selketo and more Selketos(Arrow Head /Joker)

Grit suprised the hell out of me! I never expected my mocchi, let alone ANY monster, to get back up after getting knocked out and keep on fighting. It was also suprising to see Holly at the meet.

Same here grit. Nats came back to life to KO my first monster. I wasnt even looking! I looked up to see a Ko'd Zuum on the floor after I had just supposedly KO'd Nats.

How henger eats. Its like WTF! Taking off its head to put in the food, my cousin nearly puked. Hahaha!

The Joker's laugh. The Joker showing part of his face when he moves his mask to side. How horrible Niton's starting stats were. How fast monsters die. How evil Joker's moves can sound, like Death Cutter (that screech sound is crazy) and Death Energy.

I'm gonna have to agree and say Hopper giving you "the finger" suprised me the most. I know it may mean something different in Japan, but it was hilarious when i first saw it XD

when colt and you the trainer have no connection, i mean you both sleep in the same house right?...heh

It doesn't give you the finger per se, but makes an obscene gesture with the same meaning as the finger. If you can't figure it out, then you're not old enough to be told what it is.

I was pretty surprised actually that Niton didn't have its own method of being unlocked. Or that so many monsters required being unlocked. I thought that it was really cool that I got to tourney against FIMBA though, and that Holly showed up. It had been so long since I'd seen her last.
Actually event-wise, it startles me every time Colt asks to upgrade the house or barn. I don't know Binto's secret yet, but when I reach 8th rank (I'm at 7th right now) I'll be looking forward to learning it. Colt gets downright gossipy though in parts of this game.

When the centaur attacked me, my jell went off to the corner and went on a mad whip spree, i couldnt stop laughing at how he was whiping the air so fast o.O

My worm's cocooning, I thought it was just a
really early death.

After reading these forums, I realized that worms
were pretty important and sometimes rare. Well,
after introducing my sis to this game, we started
Disc Stoning. The first three discs were locked,
the fourth disc made a scaled jell which she
called 'Alamaloo' but the fifth disc created a
blue worm!

My sister's 200~210 stat Jell beat my 290~300
stat Mocchi!

That's just because jells are amazing. And Worms are in MR2- they just have to be unlocked.
