This project takes a little bit of nerve and a little preparation.
The next time you know you are going to a game store, make sure to remind yourself to ask about the next MR game you are interested in. Make the guy behind the counter look up the release date for you, and while he is doing it, make sure to tell him how much you enjoy ranching. Don't waste too much of his/her time, because store employees spend their days talking to fanboys and you don't want to appear too obsessive. However, most game stores do keep track of what games customers are asking about, and it's important that your opinion is heard.
(You could also reserve the game, but hopefully you've already done that!)
Occasionally, there will be other customers in the store asking for recommendations. It may be possible for you to jump in and recommend a ranching game, so look for the possibility. (of course, if they ask for a good FPS, just cool it...)
There may be some opportunities to 'talk up' ranching at the bigger mass-market big-box retailers that sell home electronics, or the discount department stores. Usually when I visit those stores, there aren't any employees there, but, you never know. These places definitely don't track customer opinion, but you might be able to help lost customer buy a game, or convince an employee to try ranching.
