Unlike other message boards, we do not use the title of Moderator as an indicator of status or rank. Research done & published here is a team effort, with respect for all who contribute. I chose moderators simply to perform technical maintenance, for their ability to guide and encourage conversation, and (most importantly) their ability to help others. I only have a few people on the Moderator staff, because as a mature, considerate group we haven't needed much help.
Occasionally I will select new moderators to assist with the technical aspects of running this board. They are chosen (by a review of past posts) with several criteria in mind: 1) Do they have the time and energy to do the job? I need to see an ongoing comitment to maintaining the integrity of the community, and a willingness to perform tiring clerical tasks. 2) Do they encourage others? I'm looking for people whose posts are positive and enlightening - and who spark interesting conversation. 3) Are they willing to take responsibilty for their actions? 4) Do they have a record of helping others? 5) Do they have a basic understanding of how the board operates? Moderating does not require programming knowledge, but basic formatting skills are neccessary. 6) Is there a special project they would like to work on? Special consideration is given to those with proposals for projects involving cleanups, re-organizations, and large-scale projects.
Not everyone can be a moderator here, only a few are necessary.
Anyone who is interested can send me an email. You may not get an immediate response, but your request will be filed. Multiple emails with whining and begging will automatically disqualify a candidate.
Thanks for your interest and continuing support. -Lisa
