Just because I saw people having trouble with
what the forte is, and I realised that no-one had
posted this theory yet, I thought why not?

Could it be the move that did the most total
damage? My brother's Plant's forte was Seed
Gatling and my Ghost's was Magic Cards, and I
know for sure I used suprise and possibly
astonishment many more times than magic cards.
Can anybody test this out as I'm still not so
great at this game and struggle getting into the
Hall of Fame.

It appears to be simply the number of times used by the monster and its parents.

I'd agree, but my ghost was 2 market mocchis
straight off combined with the stick. Sorry if
I'm wrong about not using magic cards very often
but I'm just curious.

Like DP said, the only thing there is a counter for number of uses, and the unlock trigger for techs.

You could test it by raising a bunch of monsters, off CD and combined, and keep a record of each tech used and how often.
