By Lisa Shock on Monday, June 3, 2002 - 09:30 pm:

Due to unresolvable problems with an underage user who refuses to stop trying to get me jailed, I have closed the site to public posting. From now on, everyone must have an account to post anywhere on the site.

I am deeply saddened by this. I wanted to keep old-fashioned values alive here, but it's just not possible anymore. I have kept the "anonymous" option, so you can get an account then post as "anonymous" if you like.

By The D on Monday, June 3, 2002 - 09:35 pm:

See what happens when you do stupid things like this. You ruin for the people who are not regular users and just want to post. But now they got to register. That is pretty sad man.

By mepersoner on Monday, June 3, 2002 - 10:53 pm:

That stinks...

It's for the best though.

By Medjai on Monday, June 3, 2002 - 11:08 pm:

You did what you had to do.

By torey luvullo on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 - 03:56 am:

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 - 10:32 am:

I can usually set up accounts fairly fast, especially for people I know have been around for a while.

By SlapShotz54 on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 - 02:11 pm:

well, most of us knew it would eventually come down to this

By Djinnmastr on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 - 06:09 pm:

just out of curiosity, who was this ***** that ruined it for everyone? And why couldn't you just block his ISP?

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 - 10:28 pm:

An AOL user going by the names "Suezo Master", Joker2Ghost" and "Joker Ghost". AOL is a nightmare, if you ban any IP you may be banning a large chunk of the US, because they are different each time a person logs on.

By The D on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 - 10:31 pm:

You won't ever come down to banning out AOL users period, because of someone else??

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 - 11:09 pm:

No, I won't dis-allow AOL users as a group. Some of our best researchers use AOL. Each person is now really responsible for their actions with their board names, and that name will be banned and all posts by that person deleted if they get into trouble.

IP banning is now pointless for the most part. -Unless I suspect some has hacked into an account, in which case I can always delete the account until the real owner of it returns online.

I can view IPs in emails, and have a pretty good idea of who is whom from that. Even within AOL, there are regional markers.

And, like always, I can register complaints with people's ISPs if they do anything really bad.

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 - 11:15 pm:

Also, everyone, please read the section on accounts in the Office Of The Mayor carefully. I really need all 5 items to make an account for you.

By Flare Reiketsu on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 - 06:47 am:

Joker Ghost? I don't remember him saying anything about getting you jailed... What did you do, delete 99% of his posts? Probably...

By Lisa Shock on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 - 11:28 am:

It has to do with violating the under 13 law, COPPA, without written consent from his legal guardian. He receieved several email warnings with regards to this.

By ShadowFusion on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 - 12:22 pm:

I understand Lisa, though i was for the whole account thing for a while

By fiffa46 on Friday, June 14, 2002 - 02:46 pm:

Lisa I suported this when you brought it up last and I still suport this. You must do what is nesisary to protect your site and the people who use it. I am sure that you didn't rush into the decision which is why I am confident that it is the right one.

By Flare Reiketsu on Monday, June 17, 2002 - 11:15 am:

Yeah. It's a •••• shame. Oh well... look on the bright side.
*tries to find bright side for a few hours*
ummmmm...
*crickets chirping*
well, at least I got established here before the War of the Ban...

By Djinnmastr on Monday, June 17, 2002 - 11:45 pm:

hey, on the bright side, we don't have to deal with certain "unintellegent person(s)" (I'll try not to be too insulting, or mention any names) in the chat room asking how to watch the online tourney's

By SlapShotz54 on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 - 07:17 am:

isnt the chat room open to everyone with a delphiforums account?

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 - 10:47 am:

I can ban chat users.

By angry tiger dont push me on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 - 09:11 am:

i think its a good idea i dont care what anyone says

By Green Reaper on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 - 10:31 pm:

hey if it'll stop some underaged annoyance (i should be talking i'm only 13) from bugging you and getting you in trouble it's fine with me

By The D on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 - 10:33 pm:

Well you know that some little kids are cool and actually act responsible (well at least on here) and I think that some of them should be allowed. But there are others really young (7 years old) who can be really annoying.
