Looking to make an isometric tactics game similar to FFT / Tactics Ogre / FFTA etc.
Might make it in XNA. Might be 3d model graphics or hand drawn. don't know.
What I came -here- with this info is, I plan to have a rudimentary monster breeding system in the game as a remedy to a game design flaw with 'monster' units in tactics games--
They are big, and take up more room than others. Thus, they are stronger than human units and are able to take and deal more damage. This also means they use slower, with another problem...
Scaling. Not like reptile skin, but as the game progresses everyone gets stats based on their class when they level up--this is where design gets tricky! If a monster's stat growth is too high compared to a regular human unit, it will become too good when you get farther in the game. If the monster's stat growth is too low compared to a regular human unit, or it is the same, then there is no point to using the monster because it will have the same stats as the human in later stages of the game.
My remedy (or at least temporarily): Monster breeding. Let baby monsters carry on extra stats from their parent(s), and let them keep traits/moves, but keep their stat growth the same. To keep your monsters competitive you must raise babies with higher base stats and level them up again.
