Discussion on friend codes...

Monster Rancher Metropolis: The Cafe: Archived Topics From Prior Years: Year 2010 Topics (Year of the Shock Rock): Discussion on friend codes...
By Lisa Shock on Sunday, August 8, 2010 - 09:46 am:

I am debating having a friends code thread/section, simply because the system seems pretty secure. I mean, I see the disclaimer as: don't add people you don't know/trust and we here at MRM aren't responsible for what people do while playing.

Thoughts?

There should without a doubt be a friend code section. I don't mean to be so blunt, but this is the main monster rancher community site, this should be the main place to find challenges and fellow breeders with exceptional skill levels. If its not as black and white as I'm putting it can you please explain to me the problems that are giving you second thoughts?

Maybe you could put some sort of disclaimer in the section where the friend codes should be posted???

I'm all for it, nothing bad should really happen and it would be good for tournaments and breeding!

Although I can not obtain mine at this moment I am definitly for this. I would love to play (get beat down by) the lot of you. ^_^

The main problem is a US set of laws known as COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act or some such legalese).

As a website, MRM has to be very careful with anything that might lead to a child being stalked or worse.

However, with a proper disclaimer, I think we should be fine.

Is there even a chat function in the 2P modes? If it's just battling, we are home free.

By fiffa46 on Sunday, August 8, 2010 - 02:33 pm:

If it is anything like Mario Cart DS (the only game I have played online) then there should not be any kind of chat function.

I just realized that the game has an option allows you to just battle with anyone who is logged into the system, friend or not.

So does that mean you're going to go ahead and put a
friends code section up, or does this complicate the
issue further?

By GM on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 - 02:29 am:

Well, I'm back!

The Wi-Fi battle mode in MRDS is pretty much
identical to MFDS1, which Lisa and I played around
with a bit some years ago; straight-up battling and
no voice chat. An FC thread with a disclaimer not
unlike the ones found in many games' instructions
booklets shouldn't be a problem.

I have been seriously wondering where you have been, GM!!!! Welcome back!!

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 - 05:59 pm:

I have added a friend codes section to the MR:DS area, with a disclaimer. Feel free to make suggestions for changes to the wording.

So, now we have a message asking others to post, but by someone who refuses to give their own code.

My thoughts:
The section is there because people expressed an interest.

No one need post in the section at all unless they are willing to give out their own friend code.

No one should respond to threads from people unwilling to give out a friend code.
