In an effort to get an accurate as possible list of lifespans for all MR3 breeds, I have begun an experiment which will hopefully give some good results. I decided to try and limit factors that may affect lifespans, starting with those known to affect lifespans in the first two MR games. I set up the following guidelines:

1)All monsters were created from the Encyclopedia. Preferably from saves made from saucer stones, or evolution. (And the 3 types that are in the game from the start.) The only monsters not allowed at all are those directly off discs.

2)No accessories to be outfitted on the monsters. (I do not believe the durable items will effect anything.)

3)No items fed, just foods.

4)No heart crystals given.

5)For all ventures, purchase the ran ran smell for 0g, and then end the venture early by hitting the START button as quickly as possible, thereby doing nothing at all on ventures.

6)Rest every week.

7)Do not battle at all. Walk away from any challengers that show up on your ranch.

8)Avoid the localizing foods in each area. (Do NOT feed: Morx Mushrooms, Seafood, Mangoes, Salmon or Peppers!)

9)Test and retest results. Each monster in the chart has been tested a minimum of 3 times.

I started testing with the Mocchi from the beginning of the game, and I intend to test each main type (whichever type in each breed that has the same name as the breed as a whole) in its native area. As I work on more, I will post them here, along with any info from other researchers.

2 = from saucer stones collected in-game
3 = evolved in game
4 = copied from another save
5 = entered into encyclopedia from CD

**A yes indicates that the monster was raised multiple times with different foods, in each of the 5 locales.

Facts We Have Discovered So Far:

The interval between growth spurts is not always uniform. So far, most of the monsters have irregular time periods between each growth spurt. Indicated on the chart by *.

Giving a heart crystal does not affect lifespan. I gave heart crystals (in the monsters' first week of life) to 3 monsters that I had already raised once before to check lifespans. They were exactly the same.

So far, the region a monster is raised in does not appear to affect its lifespan. Neither does food. We still need to test the effects of "Nothing" being fed for a monster's whole lifetime, though.

Battle decreases lifespan by one week. (Tested by John Hawley & Torey Luvullo)

Anyone interested in working on this, please find and read the companion thread in Misc. Q&A, and read it. We are posting the monsters we intend to raise next, so as not to waste time duplicating other people's work. If you wish to double-check a breed already posted, great! Our current project is the sub-breeds and rares.
