Starting Monsters

Monster Rancher Metropolis: Monster Rancher DS Archive (DS): Monster Rancher DS: General QA: Starting Monsters

One thing I remember about this game from the first time around was that it was hard to get a good starting monster. After doing a number of drawings, I find it to still be true. I am using the best I could find - Flazer (Tiger/Abyss)

Anyone manage to get any good monsters out of the gate?

By VenomousX on Friday, August 6, 2010 - 03:15 pm:

I'm using a Flazer as well. Most of my monsters seem to be Pixies, moochis, suezos, bakus, lesiones, duckens, and that thing that hides in a pumpkin looking thing.

I haven't gotten anything too great, a few falcos, and golems. I'd like to spawn a Beaclon or naga but I'm not having much luck.

Also, I read on GameFaqs somewhere for the voice-regen type that is doesn't matter so much -what- you say, but the tone of voice you use and possibly the volume. That might be why I'm getting a lot of similar monsters, so I'll have to test that out.

You couldn't get a beaclon or Naga anyway. They need to be unlocked. See MFDS2 for details.

Try combining to get a Modoki and the use that one to make a speci in the studio.
I always went with abyss Special to get a few ranks then got a beaklon.
EGGPLANT FTW

By VenomousX on Friday, August 6, 2010 - 07:07 pm:

Ahh.. Well I assumed that Naga was available from the beginning like in MR2. Also Beaclon doesn't have any info at all about unlocking him (looking at the japanese archive)

Also I assumed that I could still make them but wouldn't be able to take them home, like when you get a monster that's too big for your stable (E.G. golem. He was added to my encyclopedia but I couldn't bring him home)

Have no idea how to make a Modoki or how to use it to get other breeds, but if I run across one I'll try that :)

By Kitty Meow Meow on Friday, August 6, 2010 - 07:15 pm:

To make a Modoki, you can either randomly generate it at the shrine (I think?) or make a combination that doesn't exist. For example, I combined a Tiger and a Plant to make a Tiger/Plant monster, which became a Tiger-Modoki ("Tiger-ish", as it has been translated.)

Then, you take the Modoki/Ish monster, combine it with a monster with a main type of which you want a special (for example, I combined it with another Tiger so I could get Poochy (Tiger/?). Use the Modoki's sub-type and the other monster's main type and you should get a special. :)

By VenomousX on Friday, August 6, 2010 - 07:25 pm:

So if you mixed, for example, a "tiger-ish" (Madoki/tiger?) with a pure-breed "Golem" you'd get a special "golem/?"

I think?

Little confused lol.

By Kitty Meow Meow on Friday, August 6, 2010 - 07:28 pm:

I believe so, yes.

Sorry, I have trouble explaining things clearly sometimes, haha.

By VenomousX on Friday, August 6, 2010 - 08:26 pm:

Alright thanks :)

Also I can confirm the tone of voice is what matters. I said the word "blue" in different tones (from deep to high pitched) and got different monsters each time.

I think the length of the incantation might also play a role.

I also started with the Flazer....
she is A class but I had to freeze her at around 3 yrs.
I have managed to get 3 different Golems...and a Hare, and 4 different types of Falcos by playing around with the speech and drawing...
I am going to try changing the tone of what im saying to see if I get anything different that what I have already generated...I have done the second barn and house upgrade so far...

I can create a master list of all monsters that can be made by voice and those that can be made by Drawing. Voice and Drawing have no particular specials in them. They are completely mathematical.

All set specials come from the Handwriting entry except for the Zodiac monsters. They have to be drawn with the pattern they give you.

Combining for Specials is something that I didn't do in the japanese game, so its news to me.

I just tried the modoki combining for posterity sake.

When I tried the combine of course it listed it as a pure monster (pancho/pancho in this case). Just for fun I tried combining it anyways, and it had normal results. In this case another Modoki.

By NoxStryx on Sunday, August 8, 2010 - 02:36 pm:

I tried the modoki combining and got a
Vega(dragon/???)
i mixed a dragon-ish with a plant-ish. using the
dragon's main and the plant's sub. so it is
possible, there just must be something we're
missing.

By Thorr on Sunday, August 8, 2010 - 03:02 pm:

For one thing, there is no dragon with a subtype of plant. Second, both monsters were modoki. That's 2 sybtypes of ?. The factors in that combination seem to lean toward a special monster.

By NoxStryx on Sunday, August 8, 2010 - 03:44 pm:

I'm gonna experiment but i think it related to the
"No dragon with the subtype of plant" more so then
the the two "ish" types.

By NoxStryx on Sunday, August 8, 2010 - 04:17 pm:

after some playing around looks like, no matter
what, as long as you use the sub type of a ???
monster the monster you get will be a ??? monster,
even if the monsters are normally compatible.

By Signtist on Monday, August 9, 2010 - 08:16 am:

It says in the tutorial that shows up the first time you try to combine that a ??? monster will show up as a purebred monster when combining. That means a Golem/???, when combined, will look like a Golem/Golem.

By Thorr on Monday, August 9, 2010 - 08:24 am:

Yes, but if you use the Golem Subtype from a ???, it will pass on the ??? subtype.

By Thorr on Monday, August 9, 2010 - 08:24 am:

FWIW, I combined to Abyss-ish to get the Abyss/??? sepcial.

By Kody on Monday, August 9, 2010 - 04:39 pm:

I just combined a Centaur-ish with a pure Durahan and got the Durahan special Warrior Z, so its pretty safe to assume that using -ish monsters as the subs in combining grants specials.

By marhawkman on Sunday, November 14, 2010 - 11:08 am:

Yeah I had the same results with a Pixie/Piroro and a Gali-ish.

BTW Pixie-ish is actually a direct translation of Pixie-Modoki. :)

Yes, I'm back. :)

By marhawkman on Sunday, November 14, 2010 - 11:09 am:

Erm... by "same results" I meant that Pixie/Piroro + Gali-ish resulted in a Kasumi.
