Can monsters die? Or do they get forced into being retired (frozen) ?

I've already gotten a warning I should retire my monster but its stats gains only just started to drop when I got that message, and I'd hate to waste the monster training if it dies.

Gonna sound horrible but I'm glad to heard that monsters die in this one. Had much more of an impact than just retiring them, too bad it doesnt seem to be used for unlocking any breeds.

it's best to combine your old monster a week before it dies.

Actually she seems to tell me that months before it dies.

I got a retirement warning, then ran two erranties and a drill, as well as fought in a tourneyment.. then froze him.

Yeah I was able to get my second monster through the Rising Dragon after being warned that death was aproaching.

I do usually retire right away though, just because there is no way to load an old save if he does die.

I basically tested drill gains. Since they were still good I took a few calculated risks. (I really wanted the pheonix. I couldn't unlock xenon though.)

I actually got the "You should retire him" message several months before my Flazer died. I believe I got the message around summer 1003, and he died in the spring of 1004. (Don't remember the exact months).
I didn't know about the resetting penalty so I just saved regularly and reset when he died. I know not to do that now. D:

what resetting penalty? I haven't noticed one. Unless you mean the fact it always advances the calender one day. I use save+reset regularly when doing drill training. Getting only red-x tiles sucks. :(

Oh yeah, Colua, (the Pixie/Piroro I menationed in another post) did a drill then beat the Gali tournament after I got the warning about nearing the end of her life.

Not only does it remember it, it lowers the stats of your combinations with that monster forever.
