Regarding Abisu

Monster Rancher Metropolis: Monster Rancher DS Archive (DS): Japanese DS Games Archive: Monster Farm DS 2: Misc. QA (post all new topics here, well make more sections later) : Regarding Abisu
By GM on Monday, August 11, 2008 - 06:34 am:

Looking at Abisu's page on the official site, the name "monaby" appears in the url.

What does everyone think of changing the romanization of Abisu here to Abysu, or Abyss?

By Thorr on Monday, August 11, 2008 - 07:18 am:

The translation is probably more accurate to be Abyss since it is a demonic monster.

(of course, now I have to change all the monsters I just added..)

By GM on Monday, August 11, 2008 - 07:20 am:

I don't think it qualifies as a demonic monster, but an abyss is an abyss. Might as well make it consistent.

I'll take care of all the changes.

MFDS 1 and 2, done and done.

By Thorr on Monday, August 11, 2008 - 07:36 am:

The god Set would not be demonic? The Abyss is meant to be Set (the evil god who dismembered Osirus) , while Falco is meant to be Horus (Son of Osirus and Isis). The two were sworn enemies who only teamed up once to defeat the great serpent (can't remember its name). Seems demonic enough to me...

By GM on Monday, August 11, 2008 - 07:41 am:

Ah, well, that's different. Please pardon my ignorance. I always thought Abyss was based on Anubis.

By Thorr on Monday, August 11, 2008 - 07:45 am:

Interesting. I definitely see your point there too. It's the Staff that gives him away though. Here is picture for reference -

(I apologize if my last message sounded a bit harsher than intended. Message boards have that lack of voicing issue...)

Oh, think nothing of it. That was very informative. Now we all know where Abyss and Falco came from.

But what about Xenon?

By Thorr on Monday, August 11, 2008 - 08:00 am:

I was of the opinion that the Xenon was added to oppose the Zan.

There is however that issue of Chaos and Cosmos that they did with the Xenon and the Abyss that makes them appear as opposing monsters though. I put that down to them coming from the same drawing template in reverse though.

Howdy - first-time poster here! But something has been eating at me for a little now since I stopped to think about the new creatures in MFDS.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't Xenon also the name of the final boss in Monster Rancher 4? Also, I seem to recall it possessing Zan-like qualities (it's been a long time and since boss fights aren't repeatable, this is all from memory) including the general head, hand and upper body shape up from what you can see of it. Just throwing out ideas here - could there be a connection or am I way off the path here?
