Drawings for Special monsters

Monster Rancher Metropolis: Monster Rancher DS Archive (DS): Japanese DS Games Archive: Monster Farm DS: Misc. Q&A (post all new topics here, we'll make more sections later): Drawings for Special monsters
By Thorr on Monday, October 1, 2007 - 06:04 am:

The grids we have posted for some of the specials monsters are good, but I know that I for one am having a very hard time getting them to work. the only one I have managed to get working so far is the most recent one (Fool Falco). Since these drawing need to have a little "flavor" to them in order to function, perhaps a screen shot/scan of the image from the Perfect Guide would be good to have along side it. My understanding is that there is a webspace/bandwidth issue here, though. I have 2 websites with unlimited storage and bandwidth that I can set up to host the images. Both are very permanent, so they won't disappear. What do you think?

By Lisa Shock on Monday, October 1, 2007 - 09:09 am:

So far, the drawings I have posted have mainly been ones where the entire square needs to be filled, like coloring in tiles.

There's a group of ones I haven't been able to post, well I tried one Mew, but it isn't very good, because they involve curved or diagonal lines.

We'd appreciate the hosting, I can send you images. Is it ok for me to send big pages with several, do you have time to trim them down? The main issue right now is that I'm working 65-70 hour weeks, plus commuting, so I just don't have a lot of time to work on things.

By Thorr on Monday, October 1, 2007 - 09:23 am:

I can do all the graphic work. I have all the tools (I am a CCG card designer...). Send me the large scans and I can make the necessary mods.

Do not use use the email I have listed, though. I will send you a message shortly with the correct email address.

:)

By Lisa Shock on Monday, October 1, 2007 - 02:28 pm:

I'll be replying from the gmail account we use for new accounts, monster(dot)rancher(dot)metropolis(at)gmail(dot)com. Hotmail doesn't like large attachments.

By Thorr on Monday, October 1, 2007 - 02:34 pm:

Not a problem. One of the addressesI sent is my work address and the CC address is my home one. I will be monitoring them both. :)

By Lisa Shock on Monday, October 1, 2007 - 05:45 pm:

Ok, I'll be able to do the scans later tonight. I'm at work until about 8 or so.

By Lisa Shock on Monday, October 1, 2007 - 10:08 pm:

sent...gamil gave me a lot of trouble tonight...hope you get them safely...

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 04:29 am:

I got the scans in my email just now (just arrived at work, I am on the east coast USA). I will begin posting these immediately.

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 05:11 am:

Ok, working diligently..

Here is a sample -
#6 - Cosmo

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 05:29 am:

I am assuming that the number in the upper left corner of these images is the Book number for the monster. The number in the upper right appears to be the page number in the guide where the info for that monster can be found. Sound right?

I will continue based on the assumption above.

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 06:16 am:

Ok, all of them are clipped, straightened, and readable. Here is the link to the parent directory (contains no page for now).

https://www.thorrsoldhammers.com/MFDS/

The drawings are divided into 4 types according to the way they are sorted in the book. I have included the type labels from the book as well. Hopefully Lisa can provide us with a translation of what they refer to (wink wink, nudge nudge). The filenames of the images correspond with the book # for the monster.

Once I get the access and the chance, I will post these as individual links in the Regeneration /Monster List area.

Note - If you go to the parent directory listed in the link, you will end up at my store.

By GM on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 07:33 am:

Hey, that Cosmo drawing's whay you get by copying the punchcard
dealie you get from pre-ordering the game. For some reason, I was
never able to get it right.

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 07:36 am:

True. I actually got it on my first try. :P

I don;t know if anyone has noticed or not, but the pre-order card is clearly visible on the official MFDS site. I made my drawing based on what I saw of the card there and got the special Abisu a couple of days ago.

By GM on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 08:17 am:

Say, Thorr, have you the classic DS, or a DS Lite?

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 08:20 am:

I have a Classic DS.

But I purchased a DS lite on Sunday, so I have both now.

By GM on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 08:25 am:

Ah, I see.

I'm getting the impression that, depending on the DS you use the
punchcard on, you'll get either Cosmo, the secret Gali Abisu, or the
secret Xenon.

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 08:35 am:

The card flips over, but the image is symmetrical, so it will make the Abisu in either direction.

The other monster (#176 Kao-su) has a pattern that doesn't look symmetrical, but the card itself is vertically symmetrical, so drawing that design will produce the Kao-su if the card is flipped either way.

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 08:37 am:

Let me rephrase for clarity..

It isn't vertically symmetrical, but if you rotate the card 180 degrees, the layout is the same.

By GM on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 08:45 am:

Ah, I see.

So both Cosmo and Chaos Xenon (that's the proper romanization)
can be regenerated via the card.

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 08:52 am:

Thanks for working on this!

Yes, the small number above each picture is the monster number. The numbers in the orange circle are page numbers.

BTW, it is useful here to use the newurl formatting code, rather than the regular url code. Some browsers may only open something in one of the frames with the regular url code.

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 09:19 am:

That didn't occur to me until you said it, GM.

Xaos and Xosmos (using the greek..) the diametrically opposed that come from the same source.. Neat twist.

By GM on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 09:26 am:

And the connection has been found. Very neat revelation, to be
sure!

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 09:38 am:

Ok, as a test of my newfound Mod muscles, I have added monster #15 in the Baku section and included the drawing from the guide. If this format looks good to the powers that be, then I will continue to add these

By GM on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 09:50 am:

That looks great to me. You've got my vote.

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 10:04 am:

Okie Dokie. I have added all the "type 2" drawings from the guide.

By Thorr on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 10:18 am:

Translation of the description for type 4 Drawings -
Very difficult magic square. In order not to slip, while counting the grids, it probably will be best to draw little by little carefully

This applies to monsters 7,61, 157.

personally, I have managed to get only one of these 3 to work. The others give me modokis because I am not precise enough.

Type 3 translation -
As for the magic square which is introduced here, they are just a little difficult. Until you can draw the figure entirely, practice!
