This is a difficult diagram to explain, but it's easy to draw. Starting on either side, make an X through the 7th - 9th columns as indicated R being a right-wards stroke and L being a left-wards stroke. Make a circle around the center of the grid, staying within the 4 innermost squares, as indicated by the Cs. Then, draw the teddy-bear mouth by making curved lines down and away to the left and right (R & L) then finish with a small smile connecting the bottom of those two lines (D).
