Combination

Monster Rancher Metropolis: Monster Rancher DS Archive (DS): Japanese DS Games Archive: Monster Farm DS: Misc. Q&A (post all new topics here, we'll make more sections later): Combination
By GM on Saturday, July 21, 2007 - 03:36 am:

This thread is for posting research findings in regards to, and
experiments with, the new combination system in Monster Farm
DS.

Combination in this game appears to be a bit different this time
around. According to some early anecdotes, when combining a
fresh monster with a raised one, only the monster's primary two
stats are inherited, along with some instances of a single stat,
apparently depending on how similar the fresh monster's
statgains are in contrast.

However, more recently, a couple of people claimed that they
combined a pair of properly raised monsters and the offspring
got boosts everywhere, along with move and trait inheritance,
one of them being from GameFAQs.

I've personally found that combining two fresh monsters gives a
new monster with a boost of 1 in every stat. Isn't that nice?

I've also noticed that the monster classifications (Spirit, Fanciful,
etc.) are apparently absent, unless I'm mistaken. There wasn't
anything in the instructions booklet about it, either.

I can confirm that combining a raised monster with a fresh one
gives the same results as two fresh monsters combined together;
+1 in every stat.

If you use a combination item will it affect stats of the monster you are about to create

Here is some raw combining data. I am really liking combined monsters in this game!
Top of the table will show 2 parents, bottom shows possible offspring. It's kind of weird how the lab reverts monster data back to the MR1 order.

Pixie/Piroro272306320405355241

Note that stats can be higher in the offspring than the parent!

I tried using some combination items I had, none of them added anything to any stat in combination.

How old were the monsters? Were they a week away from dying, or did you combine them as soon as their gains started dropping?

Speaking of reverting to MR1, interestingly enough, you can feed monsters multiple items again. I'm surprised no one mentioned it.

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 - 08:47 pm:

I froze them after their gains dropped a bit. I am not big on resetting, so I didn't want to risk them dying.

Pardon the belatedness of this comment, but I believe that, while the combo age effectiveness is the same as MR1, the actual results are more akin to MREvo, in which you could get offspring with stats quite similar to those of the parents.

Here's some more raw data:

Clearly some combintions are better than others, look at the Falco/Falco baby in each example.

By GM on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 - 10:44 am:

Wow, that is a big difference. But there doesn't appear to be a clear pattern at this stage.

Particularly notewothy is that the Pow-based Eared Mew and Falco combo yielded a lower Pow stat than both parents, whereas when combined with the Columbine, which apparently has less of a Pow emphasis than EM, the result was a far superior Pow stat.

It might have something to do with the overall similarity of statgain patterns, but that's extremely speculative right now, as we can't be even sure of the individual patterns until the nice lady above me gets her trekkie mits on the strategy guide, which, coincidentally, was released on the 31st and can be purchased online, as mentioned in the most recent thread.

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 - 08:54 pm:

Yeah, hopefully the book will arrive soon! I was just posting this in hopes that one of our other members will look at it and see a pattern, like how strunks cracked the MRA and MRA2 algorithm.

By Lisa Shock on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 - 08:55 pm:

Oh I should mention that some of these monsters didn't necessarily like being Pow or Int, it was the tech they started with that determined what I focused on. I still haven't gotten a new tech for any monster.

By GM on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 - 09:06 pm:

The advance game algorithms were cracked? I had no idea.

I should probably clarify that when I mentioned the overall similarity in statgain patterns, I meant the order of stat emphasis from highest to lowest. Unless I'm mistaken, the lab lady says something in lieu of the messages Dadge and Hafez Al-Asad (MR1 lab guy) gave before the combination begins.
