Expedition item management tip

Monster Rancher Metropolis: Monster Rancher 2 Archive (PSOne): Expeditions: General Questions: Expedition item management tip

I just discovered this, and I haven't seen it anywhere on the board yet, and it certainly isn't in the instruction manual.

Ever been on an expedition, loaded your inventory to the max with great stuff, and then your monster finds an item you don't want, like a Half-Eaten or an Irritater? The game says you have to throw something away, but the undesirable item you just picked up isn't in the list!

All you need to do is press the Triangle button (/\), and you can toggle between the inventory list and the item just picked up. This way, you can throw away the new item instead of one that's already in your inventory.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Quin, I had forgotten about this tip! I did waste some good items early on before figuring this out!

I just figured it out today when I was using my expedition monster to go on a "fund-raiser." I was able to find so many items on each expedition (due to a 578 Lif and 983 Int) that I was able to be very choosy about what I took back, but I'd still keep finding the occasional Half-Eaten or Irritater and have to throw out a Disc Chips. In frustration, I wondered if I could cancel the pickup altogether, so I hit /\, and much to my surprise, the inventory list toggled.

On a side note, I'm frustrated that the Suezo (500G) and Mew (1000G) Disc Chips are indistinguishable. I spent a few minutes toggling back and forth between them when selling in the shop, and I could not tell the difference. I even looked for specific pixel patterns, but no luck. The only time it's an issue is on the expedition itself, trying to decide whether to keep the item or not, since you can't see the type in the inventory list. Oh, well. (This would be significantly frustrating if the chips were, say, 500G and 2000G.)

Coincidentally, this trick works any time you acquire an item and already have a full inventory. My Centaur just gave me a Meteorite the week he came back from an expedition. I felt bad throwing it away, since he had just given it to me as a gift, but at 400G, it was the lowest-valued item I had. Colt made sure the Centaur didn't see me throw it out. «smile» I'll just pretend I hid it somewhere on the ranch for him to discover again later.
