Although only six monsters are available at the market (Mocchi, Zuum and the four seasonal monsters), it is possible to get a total of 14 different monsters without using a CD by combining these six monsters.
I combined all six monsters as main breeds with all six monsters as sub breeds. I verified every possible result for each possible main and sub combination by actually doing the combining at the Lab, even for the 6% Arrow Head (which took quite a few tries). No seasoning items were used, and none of the monsters was ever brought to the ranch.
It turns out that no matter which combination you use, every resulting monster of the same breed has the same stats. That is, a Gaboo will have the same stats whether its parents are Gaboo and Gaboo, Zuum and Gaboo, Gaboo and Zuum or Mocchi and Gaboo. Despite running well over 100 combinations, and even though Dadge sometimes said he couldn't recommend a combination, nothing strange ever happened.
Well, some strange things happened. Specifically, the percentages seemed to be way off base on occasion. When combining Zuum and Hare, I got five Zuums in a row (a 20% chance, according to Dadge), and it took seven tries to finally get a Spot Saurian (a 53% chance, according to Dadge). For some reason, Zuum as a main creates a disproportionate amount of Zuums as offspring, even beyond what the percentages show).
[Note: The Mocchi created by using the Monster Rancher 2 CD at the shrine is identical to the Mocchi in the market.]

Thank you! I'd always wondered about this... I used the method to get a Mustard Arrow.

Scopedog: If you used it to get even one monster, I feel my work was worthwhile. Thanks for letting me know!
Torey: Thanks. I guess the "well-presented" part can be blamed on my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, my sense of aesthetics and my perfectionist (or should that be anal-retentive?) nature.
