/??? Breed Characteristics

Monster Rancher Metropolis: Monster Rancher 2 Archive (PSOne): FAQ: The Most Important Game Data: The /??? Breeds: /??? Breed Characteristics
By ZappoHisbane on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 - 12:53 pm:

Does anyone out there have a list of the special characteristics of the /??? sub-breeds? These are the ones I know for instance:

Timenoise (Naga/???) - Very fast guts regen
Cinder Bird (Phoenix/???) - Starts with Fire Stream
ForwardGolem (Golem/???) - Starts with Earthquake

I've forgotten a number of them now unfortuatly. I'm particulairly interested in what Poison and Gold Suezo have that's special. Thanks.

By Petit-Trot on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 - 06:04 pm:

My Bronze Suezo only had the basic techs of a Suezo.

By ZappoHisbane on Thursday, March 15, 2001 - 08:30 am:

TimeNoise's guts regen is the fastest I've seen in the game. Prolly ranks right up there with metalner, though I haven't done a scientific compare. She did have a very short life though, even for a Naga. Only started with normal techs as I remember.

Does using the DNA capsules (sharked of course) produce the same unique characteristics as getting them off a CD would?

Since the number of CD pressings that a unique monster are available on are so rare, couldn't we be pretty sure they'd come out mostly the same across the board?

Oh, another one I remembered:

Ultrarl (Bajarl/???) - Starts with Bajarl Beam

What about the Durahan uniques? They any better than a normal Durahan (purebred or otherwise)?

By Corpse13 on Thursday, March 15, 2001 - 12:39 pm:

I own a Kokushi Muso and a Ruby Knight, and they don't seem any better that a normal Durahan to me. Try the Durahan/Mock. (forgot it's name)

By Dark Phoenix on Thursday, March 15, 2001 - 01:29 pm:

As for sharked DNA capsules producing the same unique qualities that the CD does, I've tested that and the answer is, unfortunately, no.

I found this out by comparing a Mia made with a DNA capsule with a Mia produced by my mother's Shania Twain CD.

DNA Capsule rares (at least in the American Version) are rares in name and appearance only. In all other respects, they are identical to the appropriate pure-breed.

and I believe ruby knight has better int. than a reg. durahan, but I'm not sure

By ZappoHisbane on Monday, March 19, 2001 - 08:40 am:

That's another one I have, thanks for the reminder. If I remember correctly, the Metal Jell starts with Gatling Gun. Plus it looks cool. :)

By DiskCatcher on Monday, March 19, 2001 - 11:25 am:

Reggae plant starts with life steal,as I recall.I'm not sure on stat gains because it was the first plant I ever raised and gaboo soldier(or is it soldier gaboo?)does not start with anything special but I think he has a bit of a skill boost.

By Corpse13 on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 - 03:19 pm:

Metal Jell starts with Gatling Gun? Cool!!!! I'm definitly going to get one. I had another similar question. Seeing how hard Moo is to get, I'm insanely curious as to what his stats are, if he starts with any extra techs, and a brief overview on raising one. If anyone has raised a non-Sharked Moo, please tell me if he is worth going after. As always, any info received would be most appreciated.

By DiskCatcher on Saturday, March 24, 2001 - 01:09 pm:

I beleive speed has a bit os a boost.

By Scott56 on Friday, April 20, 2001 - 01:18 pm:

Ruby Knight starts with Jumping Stab. He's one of my favorites.

By Stoopid on Sunday, May 20, 2001 - 08:22 am:

Ninja Kato (kato/???) starts with a HOP CLAW...still it is, like a purebreed KATO, poor in POW, but it seems to be worse in DEF than a Kato, i just dont know.

By Beaclon on Sunday, June 17, 2001 - 06:30 am:

The Satan Clause: (Wracky/???) It started off with the two basic techs with Sneak Attack. Plus I think it got good in both intellegence and power.

By hengers rock on Sunday, June 17, 2001 - 05:29 pm:

Time Noise, stat wise, is a ripper-naga/pixie

By barronbrad on Thursday, June 28, 2001 - 02:14 pm:

all of the durahans/??? can learn 1 addational move than a normal durahan(the move is different for each of the 3 durahan/???s

By Nate Railsback on Friday, June 29, 2001 - 12:30 pm:

Shogun definately does not start with an extra move, or at least my black one doesn't.

By Giga Pint on Wednesday, August 22, 2001 - 10:15 pm:

After raiding the houses of all of my friends, I located a rare CD with a Mia (pixie/???). But instead of having one extra move, it had two. I believe they were kiss and heel raid.

By infinite joker on Saturday, August 25, 2001 - 06:27 pm:

Chef doesn't start with anthing special, and only has 20+ weeks of life.

By Harle on Friday, August 31, 2001 - 06:09 pm:

Hm. Having only trained 2 rares, I'm not sure what type of input I could put in. Shoguns tend to be bad natured, and they do only start with the two basic techs. Happy Masks come out Best natured (I think?) Which is why they know Red Wisp.
As for all /??? subreeds (I think?) They tend to be the dominant species when combining. (Take a Phoenix combined with a Happy Mask, Gali is 66)
The only thing I've really noticed about the rares, is that they look different, and may have one or two stats higher then the normal breed, and one lower. Oo. But they are fun to train! *looks at a grinning Happy Mask* How can you REFUSE? It has Sunflowers on it's cape for gosh sakes!

By Misnomer on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 - 05:23 am:

Kasumi only starts off with 2 moves (pat and kick) which I think is horrible but maybe it can learn 1-2 punch, I have to look into that.

By Jase Tiojanco on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 - 10:27 pm:

I got a Mia(pixie/???) from a CD called "Shania Twain: The Woman in Me" and it started off with 4 techniques, two basic techs(pat and kick), one withering(kiss) and one heavy(heel raid)and a Caloriena from the CD "Kagero's Deception" for the Playstation already has the technique press and the two basic techniques. Chef and Time Noise did not have anything! Does anyone know what techniques does a Gentle Mocchi has from the start and can rare ??? sub-breed monsters learn crossover moves(like firebreath for my Mia)???

By John Hawley on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 - 07:26 am:

No, just the specified sub-breeds can learn the crossover moves.

By Trainerly on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 - 04:31 pm:

I would have liked to post this somewhere else and
even make it into my own thread for people who are
wondering, however no other thread allows me to
add a message and I couldn't start my own thread,
so I will post it here.

My investigation first started when I saw people
saying that sharking a monster is not the same as
doing the actual CD.

Now, maybe I am wrong but so far using 2 theories
said by Lisa and Dark Phoenix I have found the CD
and sharked version to be the same.

1. Lisa stated in a post that sharking a monster
only changes its appearance while keeping the
previous monsters guts, stat gains, and stat
multipliers the same. While this is true if the
code is used on a preexisting monster, it is not
true if used when you do not have a monster out
and you go to the shrine and insert any CD of your
choice. To test it, I simply got a moochi straight
off the MR2 disc and froze it and saved with no
monster out. I then turned on the monster editor
code to a Serenity (Pixie/Plant). Once again I
went to the shrine and just kept the MR2 disc in
and obviously got a Serenity from it. I
immediately froze her, saved, then went to Vs.
mode. At first glance it was obvious that
Serenity's guts regain was far faster than moochis
and got to 99 long before moochi's did. This
disproves the theory that all the technicalities
of the monster will remain the same as the
original monster.(Granted you must use the code
when getting the monster off a CD, not on a frozen
monster or one already on the farm.)

2. Dark Phoenix's theory on combining (which has
never failed me) was the second tested theory on
CD vs. sharking monsters. First, I found moochis
multipliers 3,3,3,4,4,4. Keeping these in mind I
looked for 2 monsters with multipliers that were
pretty different from moochis. I had already had a
trained zuum in my freezer so I used him. Using
the shark code for a Jell/Golem, I made one using
the MR2 disc again. Now if the sharked monsters
stat multipliers were not the same as the
originals straight off a CD, then once I fixed
Jell's stats to match zuum's stats the combination
would not be great. However, once fixing Jells
stats to fix Zuum's stats:
Zuum
Life - 201(3) x1 = 201
Power - 600(3) x1 = 600
Int - 630(2) x0.5 = 315
Ski - 999(4) x1.5 = 999
Spd - 304(3) x1 = 304
Def - 100(3) x1 = 100

Jell
Life - 201(3) x1 = 201
Power- 600(3) x1 = 600
Int - 210(4) x1.5 = 315
Ski- 999(3) x1 = 999
Spd- 608(2) x0.5 = 304
Def - 67(4) x1.5 = 101
*Keep in mind the stats don't have to be EXACTLY
the same. Just the same level.

Dadge told me I had a great combination. So far
it's holding up. So, to make sure it wasn't
moochi's multipliers that Jell/Golem used we kept
the same stats that Jell/Golem had, and combined
Zuum and Moochi.

Moochi
Life - 201(3) x1 = 201
Power - 600(3) x1 = 600
Int - 210(3) x1 = 210
Ski - 999(4) x1.5 = 999
Spd - 608(4) x1.5 = 912
Def - 67(4) x1.5 = 101

NO SIR! Dadge did not tell me I had a great
combination.

So, as you can see, the sharked Jell/Golem has the
same stat multipliers as the one you would
actually find on the CD that produces him.

How this can tie into the current thread: Yes,
when using a gameshark, you can get ??? monsters
(and any other monster you want) with their
original stats/guts/techs/mulipliers.
