in chat last night, a question came up, and i wasn't sure of the answer.

any help would be appreciated. thanx

I never got barjarl chips until I got barjarl.

I never ever got any disc chips for monsters that were not unlocked...then, once I unlocked a monster, I would begin to see their disc chips all over the place in expeditions. So from my experience, it seems you must unlock a monster type in order to find disc chips for that monster type. I'm interested in seeing other responses to this one.

I don't think so. I never got Bajarl before
unlocking it, never got Joker or Beaclon before
unlocking, etc.

However, I did get Golem and Baku before
unlocking the subs for those ones. I think that
you can get disc chips in the same way as you
can get the sub-breeds for a few locked
monsters. i.e., since you can get the
sub-breeds of Gali, Henger, Worm, Mew,
Dragon, Golem and Baku from the beginning,
you can therefore get their disc chips.

And yes, I know that Mew isn't a usable sub.

I've found Ducken chips before, and I'm pretty sure that I've never raised a Ducken on a save. The same with Wracky, but I finally did raise on of those (pretty good, too! 800s in everything but skill which was 450 :D).

but as long as you have unlocked ducken, it is available - even tho you havent raised it.

...Hmm...maybe you can't find them on an
expidition when you don't have them, but you
can win them in a battle?

Just a wild guess, I don't remember these
things.

BTW, how come this question never popped
up before?

There are three possibilities here:

A.) One can get them at any time with the right amount of luck (my personal belief)

B.) One gets them once you obtain the items for unlocking (I.E. "Double-Edge," "Magic Pot," "Strong Glue") without necessarily unlocking the creature.

C.) One gets them only after having created the monster and/or raised the breed.

For what you say to be true, Torey, it'd have to be the second one, because the only time I even created a Ducken was to unlock disc stones. I'll raise one someday, yes, but right now all that I have is the "Strong Glue" and the Ducken Doll (forgot the name).

What I meant by I THINK I have gotten them is that shortly before Christmas, the save ports on my original PSX got fried, and I just played around raising this and that because it didn't matter once I hit the power button. This may have been when I encountered the chips, but I'm 99% certain that I've gotten them on my saved games.

I have never been able to get some types of chips (read: the locked monster chips) without first unlocking said monster. Now, this might be pure chance, but I have a feeling that it's related. While I've never raised a tiger, and still regularly get tiger chips, I never once got hold of a Bajarl dick chip until I bred that first Bajarl. Now, I can't seem to get away from them. Same with Mock chips, on the Torles Mountain Expedition.
