Monster Rancher Metropolis: Monster Rancher 2 Archive (PSOne): Techs/Tech Chains: Latest Forte Theory By Nate Railsback on Friday, July 28, 2000 - 08:26 pm:
Okay, now that I've gotten several monsters into the Hall of Fame, it's my opinion that the "Forte" award goes to a monster's overall most powerful move, whether they used it a lot or not. Why? Take a look at my monster type- Forte readouts: By Eagle_Fierce on Saturday, July 29, 2000 - 02:03 am:
Negative, Nate... By Phoenix Masta on Saturday, July 29, 2000 - 07:30 am: Yeah my phoenixes in the HoF both had fire wave yet one's forte was heat beam and the other fire stream. My theory is that it is either your most used tech. or the one you get the most 1 hit K.O.s with. be seein' ya By torey_luvullo on Saturday, July 29, 2000 - 07:44 am: the whole forte thing is strange. neither nate's nor phoenix masta's explanation works for how darva, my daina ended up with flame as her forte, when it was a move she never used after e level. the best explanation was that her mother, laurel, [a futurity] had used flame a lot. By John Hawley on Saturday, July 29, 2000 - 09:21 am: My Undine (Aqua Regina) had Hailstorm as her Forte. I tend to go with the usage theory with the mod that the main form parent stats carry over. By Nate Railsback on Saturday, July 29, 2000 - 04:05 pm: Well, I once again issue the hypothesis that different copies of Monster Rancher 2 are just programmed differently, which would explain why we have all these oddly different results. It's the same way that there are supposed to be four different colors of Shoguns (mine is black, others have reported red, green, or white). By Dark Phoenix on Sunday, July 30, 2000 - 03:14 am: If it's any comfort, even mighty Nevistar is having trouble with this one! By treymjb on Sunday, July 30, 2000 - 08:08 am: DP, who are you calling mighty? your just as mighty as nevistar! By Dark Phoenix on Sunday, July 30, 2000 - 03:07 pm:
yeah, and I'm having trouble with it too! There's one way to find out. In the PSX's memory, there is an area that governs what moves a monster currently has. There are two values per move, the first one is basically a switch that activates the move, the second records the number of uses a particular move has. Rumor has it (I've haven't comfirmed this) that these numbers carry over generations somewhat, which would explain some of the anomalies in the pattern you're discussing. Again, I need to test that.
