Monster Rancher 3 unlocking guide

A complete guide to unlocking all regions and monsters.

Note: You are locked into a story/event in a region until that story is finished, even if you have moved into a new region!

If you are attempting to unlock Zan or Joker and nothing is happening, try going back to any area where you had been involved in a story/event, and make sure it is really finished.

After, go back to the region where you were trying to unlock your monster.

The most commonly unfinished story/event is Takrama's Golems. It's not over until you have been congratulated several times during the six months following the defeat of the Golem.

Starting Monsters

  • The following 25 monster Breeds do not have to be unlocked:
Baku, Beaclon, Colorpandora, Ducken, Gitan, Golem, Hare, Hengar, Jell, Lesione, Mew, Mocchi, Mogi, Momo, Naga, Octopee, Ogyo, Pixie, Plant, Psiroller, Raiden, Suezo, Suzurin, Tiger, Zoom

Training Regions

Morx is the only available region on a new game, but there are 4 additional regions to raise your monster in. Over time you'll usually naturally unlock them in the following order: Kalaragi & Takrama, Brillia, and Goat. Different regions allow you to evolve your monster into a different sub-type, have access to different Drills with varying stat combinations to suit your desired focused stats, and two are required for Monster unlocking progress.

If you're having trouble opening up the additional regions, Please see the tables below.

  • Check roughly where the locked region's fame level is at.
  • Fight in that region to earn fame towards unlocking it.
  • Region is unlocked when the required minimum fame has been earned.
  • Different regions require varying fame earned to unlock.

    Unlock Dragon & Durahan

    Locked disc description: "Legendary Power"

    • Beat a Tochikan Festa A Rank tournament so that your monster has earned the S Rank.
    • You will not receive any notice about it, but now you will be able to create Dragon & Durahan breeds at the Shrine.

    Unlock Joker

Locked disc description: "Monster too powerful"

    • Minimum Breeder Rank of 5 (are able to compete in S rank)
    • Goat must be unlocked, and you must be in Goat.
    • No other stories can be in progress.
    • Monster has 100 or more weeks lifespan remaining.
    1. Ms Jenna and Burn will eventually warn the player about Kai.
    2. In January, Kai will visit Fleria and have an exchange trying to bribe you to lose in a tournament so he can win.
    3. In August, Kai revisits and apologize to Fleria and the player, and invite them to the "Luna Battle". The next week Jenna will confirm what is known about the tournament, and mention Grandma Mosha in Morx.
    4. Go to Morx, then talk to Grandma Mosha. You'll get prompted if you want to go fight, select "yes.".
    5. After the discussion with Mosha, be sure to return to Goat by November Week 1 or sooner.
    6. While already in Goat, When the week changes to November Week 2 you'll get a special dialogue to attend the tournament. This is not something joined via the battle calender. Entering the battle and failing will cost 20 weeks of lifespan.
      • You must beat Kolbain, a Joker (Lif 412, Pow 506, Int 534, Spd 486, Def 248).
      • If you lose, you can try again in future years as long as you're in Goat when the week rolls over to November Week 2.
    7. Once you win the tournament, Frelia will suggest you take the Joker Plate to Bragma in Morx... but WAIT! If you have the lifespan to spare, do the next to steps. They are permanently gone if you visit Bragma first:
      • [Optional Dialogue] Before moving, Rest in Goat for dialogue with Ms Jenna.
      • [Optional Dialogue] Visit Morx and Rest for dialogue with Grandma Mosha to report on the Joker Plate.
    8. Finally, Visit Grandpa Bragma as suggested. This unlocks Joker and you will be able to create Joker breeds at the shrine.
      • v1.0 BugYou are urged to go to the Shrine as soon as you can. If your monster dies before you go to the Shrine, you will be permanently locked out from acquiring Joker.[1]
      • Save often: Before beginning, and a separate ones during and through out this event.

[1]This bug could not be reproduced (appears to be fixed) in v1.1 of the game. See Version indicators.

    • Keep playing in Brillia and eventually you'll be challenged by a Zan wearing accessories.
    • Battle the accessorized Zan (win/lose/KO does not matter). After, the accessories will disappear, and it will bow down to you. The Zan and owner will walk away.
    • The next week, they will return with a saucer stone for you.
    • Go to town, and talk to Grandpa Bragma. He will say he needs to research the stone, and will get back to you.
