I had something like this up before and I deleted it, but I now regret that so here it is again in a clearer fashion (I hope)
the best way to find a breed is to Mutate a known password. Mutate simply means to shift the first character and get another monster. The thing is, since all the following characters are the same the Shrine will apply a lot of the same rules it uses to generate monsters. Additional traits will be the same, stat modifications, and probably even extra attacks. The biggest thing that will be the same is what I call the Register. Register is where a monster password falls on the list of subbreeds.
If you want to find a Garlant (Henger/Dragon), a good way to do it would be to take another password for a /dragon monster and Mutate it. Now you will notice a lot of purebreeds will come up, keep this in mind later.
To find specials, the rule holds true there are three slots for red specials, and up to 5 for legends. To find one you take another pass from the same Register (e.g. to find Grasseed (Raiden/SP) you would look at other first slot red rares, like Graspector (Arrowhead/SP)).
Now, remember the pures I mentioned? well that's what happens when the there is no subreed of the proper type in that main breed's Register (a mutated /dragon password will only make pures when there is no /dragon available) However, this also means that any password we have currently for purebreeds is a potential source for rares or legends. The pure password may simply need to be mutated a few times to find out what register it hits. So my advice to mutate passwords and find out if they sart to make specials or legends.
I do this quite a lot, its tedious but its a more surefire way to find undiscovered monsters. We only have 10 left without passwords and some of them are not hard to look for. Check the temp thread to complete passwords list for an up to date list of whats missing. I've contributed a lot already and I wanted to share the method I use. I freely admit its not my own, I noticed something that nowd(I think) was doing and copied it =)

Bump
For example say you were looking for one of the missing monsters #435 Shrike (Raiden/Mogi)
You could take a password for #209 Sandler (Naga/Mogi) and Mutate it. One password is 'prayers' so simply spend about 30 min entering Arayers, Brayers, Crayers, etc.
